Course Design Considerations
There are several formats to deliver course materials and each with its own benefits and limitations.
Textbook style courses will get you started
The quickest, easiest and most economical format is the textbook style of delivering information where courses are broken down into lessons and further broken into topics for the reader. Even better than a textbook, online courses can include as many quizzes, inserted at any level, as needed to check a student’s progress, comprehension and reinforce their knowledge and memorization.
Videos and Animation are powerful tools
Chalkboard style videos where chalkboards start with a baseline of information and diagrams while the narrator walks though the steps to complete the learning process while providing a thorough explanation of the steps.
Chalkboard videos should be concluded by applying multiple examples which will reinforce the basic concepts, reinforce its application and provide the added clarity of how differing variations can be applied.
Another effective style are the YouTube styled video where a person documents the actual steps from start to finish to complete a project.
Videos can be exceptionally helpful where there are steps to followed and logic to be applied. The videos are designed in exacting detail and supported with clear and concise explanations before they are recorded and uploaded to the site. It’s better than having a private tutor as the visuals and verbal details are exact, deliberate and detailed.
Quizzes for comprehension and clarification
Each course or their subsets of lessons and further subsets of topics can have interactive quizzes added that highlight key points and test the student’s comprehension levels.
